When you do a straight roll, you are no longer looking at the expected move.
Do you use another criteria or just your intuition?

  Greed. Lol Also, I’ve got Dec 6850/6855 Bear Call Spreads and those Jan VIX call spreads i bought. Up or down now with the aggressive put roll works fine.
