I was wondering if it was time to roll the leaps down, please share your thoughts.

Good question. I hadn’t thought about it yet, since I had plenty of credit received to cover the cost of closing my short puts. Rolling the LEAPs down to lock in some profits does sound a like a good idea though.

I guess my next question would be, roll them down to what strike? I think I would want to pick something with obvious resistance, such as a major moving average or previous support/resistance level.

For example, the 50-day MA is around 6900, and that also looks like a level where the market hesitated, except for the January flirtation with 7000. If I were going to roll the LEAPs down, I don’t think I would go below that for now, in case we have a sudden resolution to the war. Of course, we could always simply roll them back up, as long as we maintain sufficient cash in the account to pay for that.

If we get a couple of weekly closes (or especially a monthly) below the 200-day MA, then all bets are off. In that case, I will probably stop selling spreads and gradually close each LEAP for nice gains at certain levels. Something like, close a LEAP at every 5% deeper pullback off of the ATH.

  I agree, we need to wait a little longer to make any decision, whip saw is a big danger now. I also looked at the weekly chart and will be more inclined to roll down if price establishes below the 30 week moving average, it is there right now on the first day of the week.
