63 days now since my last roll up of LEAPs. Premium received since then of over 1050 points total. I’m calling that free money!

I really wish I was able to manage this the way you have. I haven’t calculated exactly but I’ve had a similarly long period since last LEAP roll-up and not seen hardly any net growth in premium.

  Part of the discrepancy is it seems you throw extra put spreads on during a pullback. That’s something I haven’t been able to track. I have a certain number of short put positions, and I roll them. I don’t throw extras on. Do you reduce the number of short positions when we are at highs then throw them back on when we drop? I mean, what’s a “starter” in your post below? Is this related to a LEAP position, or just extra trading outside of the LEAP strategy? Are positions like this part of the 1050 points you’ve gained?

    The cash I have set aside for rolling SPX LEAPs up is used to sell SPY puts on pullbacks (actually spreads since I buy SPY puts on big rallies to have in inventory for pullbacks). It’s safe to put that cash to work with SPY since it won’t be needed to roll up SPX LEAPs on pullbacks.
    
    Other than that, no relationship to the SPX LEAPs positions or strategy. The 1050 doesn’t include anything outside the basic SPX strategy.
    
    The “starter” is just my first SPY sale usually around the 200 day. Add to that if the drop continues until I reach max position size.
    
    Depending on how deep the pullback is sometimes I get a decent size SPY position and sometimes it’s just in and out. Today is my 16th time in 2026 selling these into dips. Total gain YTD is around 25k. Not bad for just putting spare cash to use. And at Fidelity the cash to back these SPY sales continues drawing money market interest as long as I don’t take assignment.

  XSP seems a lot tougher to manage in the chop for some reason. I had 10 XSP in my daughter’s account but switched to 1 SPX and am having much more success. In fact I just upped her to 2 positions a couple days ago to really get the snowball going.
