SPX expirations? Can never remember…

SPX expirations? Can never remember this, but does the monthly expiration occur on Friday morning and the weeklys on Friday afternoon at the close?

Monthly does expire on open Friday. I’m pretty sure that both expire on open.

I was thinking monthlies expire at the open Friday (make your position adjustments by Thur close) and weeklies expire at regular close on Friday afternoon….double check me on this since I haven’t traded it much lately.

  The only weekly for this week is the Wednesday weekly which expires at 4:15pm today. During options monthly expiration, there is no Friday weekly, only a monthly. Hope this helps. Look at your option chain. I use TOS.

    Agreed. The oddball Wednesday “monthly weekly” expires today but I think the regular “weekly weeklies” expire on Fridays at 4:15. LOL

      Interesting…I was figuring that today’s “Wednesday weekly” might be related to the futures contract switching today but apparently it’s a new product as of a couple weeks ago. We now have quarterly, end of month, monthly, Wednesday weekly, and end of week weekly.
      
      SPX Weeklys (SPXW) expiring at the end of each week (End of Week – EOW) are typically listed on Thursdays and expire on Fridays, provided that such expirations were not previously listed. As of February 23, 2016, CBOE began offering Wednesday Weeklys (also part of SPXW), which are typically listed on Tuesdays and expire subsequent Wednesdays at least one week out. (Note that Wednesday Weeklys are not listed if an SPX End-of Month – EOW option would expire on the same day).

        Crazy! Not going there for dailies. I accidentally sold a Wednesday weekly recently thinking it was the actual “weekly” weekly. It gets very confusing if you aren’t paying attention. I may start sticking to the traditional third week monthly.

Thanks to all. Sorry I was just lazy. I finally looked it up on the CBOE website. Monthly’s expire at the open on Friday morning, but stop trading at Thursday’s close. The regular weeklys expire at the close on those Fridays.
