#Earnings #Gold This was an earnings trade gone bad… assigned with an 85.00 cost basis back in August, stock dropped to 60 a couple times… finally put a trail stop on it and the final batch closed today. I don’t tend to wait forever for recovery on these assignments. My mistake was not putting stops on the stock at the beginning, since it did recover into profit territory briefly. Dividends and covered calls brought my cost basis down to the high 70’s… average stock sale around 69.00.

$SVXY / $UVXY – the last SVXY bottom was 118.39 while UVXY topped at 23.85.
$NUGT /$DUST when gold futures touched 1260 (now at 1245), NUGT peaked at 12.28 while DUST bottomed at 26.30
My opinions fwiw:
UVXY is unlikely to reach the prior peak until after SVXY violates its prior low – selling UVXY “Weekly” calls in the 30’s seems like a winning move vs. SVXY Puts. They can always be rolled.
DUST is much closer to it’s previous low than NUGT is from its high. A 28% move in NUGT would just about do it, but DUST would drop 28% to 21, over 5 points below its last bottom. I’m hanging on to my short DUST calls for June (65) and Jan 2018 (90) until that happens. I will continue to roll down DUST puts as needed.

$GDX and $NUGT showed extraordinary weakness despite only a modest pullback in #GOLD. I’m reestablishing a long position on some put assignments and will begin selling covered calls on Monday at strike prices above my cost.

#OptionsExpiration #Weeklys #Feb24 – A pretty good week as almost everthing worked(again). $SVXY pulled back allowing more puts to be sold, $UVXY rallied so a new set of Weekly and Monthly calls could be sold, and $DUST continued to rally despite the move up in #Gold allowing some more short Puts to expire.
Also, a couple of covered call positions were assigned and closed out profitably, raising more cash for the coming months.

BTC Dust Feb 17th 75 call for .15. Sold for 9.00 on Nov 23rd.
This leaves me flat in DUST/NUGT. Going to leave them alone until one of them goes on a bullish surge. I did well overall on this DUST bull run (started selling calls on Oct 4th), although it would have been better if I wasn’t forced to close a few on the highs due to margin (Nov 11 & 14). I will be careful to not sell too many too fast next time.

STO Dec 9 $50 Call for $9 when $54.50, as price is falling now $52 range trying to buy back $2-3. I also bought stock at $55.20, not sure if I’ll hold or cut losses. I think gold will continue to fall sending $DUST higher. I would appreciate other thoughts.

NUGT…rolling and getting smaller
Rolled this week’s short calls down from 20 to 19 for 1.00 credit. Used proceeds to buy back 28, 31, 32 puts that were DITM. Still preserving premium on all the original rolls. So far so good…still concerned a good jobs number on Friday will cause a further drop.

Looks like Gold has once again failed to show any follow through strength. Still can’t get above the 20d SMA.
$NUGT holding up better than gold but if gold continues to roll over, $NUGT will follow.
I actually don’t want it crash lower. The longer is stays up like this, the more money we make selling weekly calls with some premium.

Gold is looking pretty weak. Even though the dollar ($DXY, $UUP) is down again today, gold has no follow thru from yesterday’s move. Gold was at much higher prices a couple weeks ago when the dollar was much higher. Looks like it has started making lower highs. $NUGT’s jump yesterday increased the premium’s enough to make it worth while for me to make a couple trades between yesterday afternoon and this morning. Not getting very aggressive and still staying pretty short term.

Looks like even though the dollar is pretty weak today, Gold is hanging in there, but really not catching a bid. Maybe the gold buyers have exhausted themselves.
The past month or so, I’ve had a lot of $NUGT positions on, as positions expired, I entered new one’s. At this point, I’m really not inclined to add any more positions, I plan to work off the existing positions that I have unless $NUGT shows some strength. Just not enough premium in the upside calls right now to make the risk/reward worth it. Since we’ve all seen $NUGT move $15 in a day multiple times I don’t want to sell any calls below $70, and they just aren’t worth anything. If the #Gold/$XME move is over, then selling additional puts right now doesn’t really appeal to me either since this thing could drop like a stone.

I’m on a business trip and very busy during the day so missed the opportunity this morning to sell additional calls at better prices. Did sell some but not great entry’s. Apparently $GS put out a note today telling people to sell #Gold, so just in case that continues to ripple through to the miners, I chased a bit and sold more calls than I normally would have with the stock down 20%. Might get some bounce with better prices, or might just keep going down.
