Got a chance this morning so decided to enter a paper trade. Market is strong, should have made this one for real.

  Kelly (or anyone else who wishes to answer), what platform(s) are you using to trade futures? I’m assuming you have a full-time job, which I do as well and I’m in the Pacific time zone, which means the morning move is usually occurring during my commute and/or at the beginning of my work day. Thank you.

    I’m using TOS. @fuzzballl and @fibwizard both use TOS for charting but they use other platforms for actual trading. They have both mentioned this recently. @fibwizard I believe is using Optionhouse (or who ever bought them). I think @fuzzballl is using the new Tastytrade platform.

      I use TOS as well, but when I’m in the office I can only use the mobile version since my employer’s IT policy does not allow me to download TOS to my work computer. My original question wasn’t clear, so I apologize about that. The challenge I face is accessing charting tools/indicators to see buy/sell signals in futures. The TOS mobile app has most of the charting studies @fibwizard uses, but with fewer customization options than the TOS desktop version. I’m worried the mobile app will be less reliable, meaning the indicators may show false buy/sell signals or show signals that may not be as clear as the indicators in TOS, causing me to execute the wrong trades at the wrong time.
      
      Just curious if anyone else faces the same challenge as I. Thank you.

        I”m still on TOS…Tastyworks doesn’t have portfolio margin or futures or a mobile app so I haven’t switched (yet). These features are all coming soon. As far as the @fibwizard style goes on a mobile app…I’ve never tried it but I would imagine it would be difficult if not risky. I don’t even attempt it if I’m away from my desktop computer. Can you hide a laptop in your desk drawer?? 🙂 🙂

        TOS won’t run on my companies computers either it’s not that I can’t download it, it just simply won’t run because of firewall issues. My IT group was great in trying to help me out but we just couldn’t get it to work. So, I actually run TOS from my own personal laptop that I have in my office.

      I use TOS for Charting and I trade on OptionsHouse, since I was using OH for my options acct..They acquired TradeMonster and I stayed with it..they arent the cheapest, but I make one futures trade a day, maybe two..so they ar4ent making much off me..this week I made 6 trades, so they arent making much from me..

      if you get get at the times it pulls back and then takes off, and know how it behaves, you can trade the chart by itself and just watch the 9:30 and 10:00 time areas..its not ideal, but its workable..

        I loved the platform but the fee’s were crazy if you traded in small lots like most of us do and couldn’t close trades @ $.05 or less for free. If you were trading large # of options contracts (like John and Pete would be) they were the cheapest.
        
        Now much more market pressure to get fee’s down.

        I apologize I am just getting back to you. I was out in LA for a business trip and just got back. You are correct TastyTrade has come out with a very compelling offer. Based on what your trading plans are and the amounts you are looking to deposit, I would be able to offer you $0.40 per contract each way, no ticket. Exchange fees are only roughly $0.04 per contract. This would be for the life of the account not just a promotion.
        
        Our stock trades are $4.95 flat to open and close, and futures trading is $4 round trip. I would unfortunately not be able to discount these trades. Also, we have a dime buy back program, where if you close out a short option that is priced at $0.10 or less, it is a commission free trade.

        Since the market opens at 6:30 my time and I have some flexibility in my work hours, I could always trade until 8am (10am central) then go to work.
