$UVXY Please excuse my ignorance….

$UVXY Please excuse my ignorance. I was trolling around wanting to validate my belief that $UVXY short calls require 50% of the strike value in margin. I can only sell calls in one account and it is of the smallish type. Don’t want to end up exceeding my welcome. Thanks team.

The margin (or buying power effect) in my TDA account is affected by how far out of the money the strike is. Right now selling a $30 call this week, Mar 17, June 16 or Jan’2018 all had the same $406 impact on buying power.

In my TOS portfolio margin account the margin hit for selling a March 30 strike call is $191. But….and this is a big but….

IF UVXY DOUBLES the margin explodes by 5 times to $1045. If UVXY triples it goes to $1772. Position size is critical here…it can happen.

  Fuzz, I use TOS. Is there a column or link to show the margin required for any one position. I’m coming up blank. I sent them an inquiry but no response yet. And thanks for your response.

    Set up the trade but don’t send it. Right click instead and select “Analyze Trade”. Then go to Analyze tab and set price slices for various UVXY movement and it will display changing margin requirements.
