BABA earnings

BABA moved earnings from 8/2 to 8/23 (three weeks out). Now confirmed.
We can’t say that @fuzzballl didn’t warn us. lol.

I can’t figure out why companies can’t be more consistent with their dates. Sometimes it 3 months and sometimes it’s 2 and a half or 4…you just never know. I’ve watched these patterns closely for a long time on most of my frequently used underlyings and the absolute most consistent rock solid dependable ticker is NVDA. You can set your watch to their announcements. WYNN is far and away the worst.

Did it affect your Aug 3 premium at all?

  No, it didn’t affect the premium of my current position. As I mentioned earlier, volatility hadn’t really expanded on any of the weekly expirations. It was pretty clear that the earnings date wasn’t confirmed. I’ve sold two rounds of BABA for 115% and 130% already. Currently holding two cheap Aug3 calls so all good here. Now I’ll wait for the 14/1 or 7/1 setup to buy more.

  The BABA 30d, 28dte calls bought 27 days before earnings have great historical returns so you could even buy today on the pullback if you were so inclined. Here’s the CML study for the last 8 quarters.

I followed you on NVDA 240/230 BuCS 17 AUG 2018 at 7.47 I added 40% (3) = 10.47 trying selling it at 10.47 GTC, but TOS system keeps rejecting me. I called TOS, they told me I can not ask for more than $10. Have you experience this before?

  When you buy a call debit spread rather than a long call, you don’t add 40% to your purchase price. You have to consider the width of the trade (10 in this case). It isn’t possible to sell for more than the full width.:-) If I buy for over 7, I sell these for 9.40. If I buy the debit spread for under $5, I sell for $7.

    interesting. I was only selling credits for many years. Usually SPX, once it is executed I buy it at 0.05 GTC. then watching it daily.

      Call debit spreads should be reserved for plays where you are bullish. If you’re mindset is neutral or bearish, avoid like the plague. Sell for premium as you have done in the past.
