Senate panel accused drug company…

Senate panel accused drug company Gilead of they knew many patients can not afford it but went ahead priced it at $1000/tab. and they don’t care about patients with hepatitis C. This is what I am afraid of that some drug companies CEOs will destroy other good drug companies by their exaggerated greed

I have little faith in anything that comes out of a Senate panel. The participants are seldom real experts in whatever it is they are investigating and anything they say and do in regards to the investigation is always influenced by their political goals and ideology.

  They could be so, but Gilead asking a $1,000.00 per tab. is unrealistic, there are 3,000,000 patients having hepatitis C in the US, each patient must be treated by 1 tab per day for 3 months, that is 90 tablets.
  1,000.00 X 3,000,000.00 X 90 = $270,000,000,000.000
  
  Other issue is they are selling the same drug outside the US at $100/tab ONLY, so why patients in the US pay $90,000 for full treatment compared to $9,000.
  
  These issues are critical and Gilead causing troubles for other companies. I know the FDA preparing a guidelines for drug prices, this means many small / medium companies will not survive. No investor will invest her/his money to get 5-10%, after 3-4 years that if the company will be successful in reaching phase 4. Less than 5% of small/medium companies might be successful in getting a drug to the market.

    Bottom line, this drug actually cures the disease and so is actually cheaper in the long run than what was available previously… So what is that worth? It is not some old drug whose price was arbitrarily increased to a ridiculous level.

      I agree, it is a cure not just reducing viral virulence. Gilead rejected Senate panel proposal. Now they will have the FDA ruling, let us see what will happen. I remember others and me tried traded GILD when they announced the cure, but we lost when the price issue was raised.
